In anticipation of our collaboration with Andres Serrano called Residents of New York, opening May 19th, we are featuring artists who have made socially engaging work about poverty and homelessness. Andres Serrano has a keen awareness for the people who live on the streets of New York City. The artist first photographed the homeless in 1990 for a series called Nomads. In the last few days, after hurricane Sandy left us with no power, no water and no phones, we scrambled to press on. We have refused to stop! We have hiked every day to find a place where to plug in and work. We have texted, emailed, phoned, and met, whatever and whoever was available.
